Natasha Bird

I try to make machines that have an energy or buzzing that belongs neither to the object or to the space that surrounds it.  I am interested in the absolutes and the places in-between, the ‘both at once’, the gap between physicality and our perception of it. The machines are clumsy and basic, no more or less than their action dictates.

They are musical machines with no tune.  They are equipment with no task.  Movement is important to me in that it is crucial the objects do something, transforming energy from one form to another – repetitively, monotonously, futilely even.
